Five ways to be part of this before we open. Each one is a different kind of commitment — none of them cost money today. Read what you're signing up for, then sign up.
Grandpa's Workshop hasn't opened yet. We're in the pre-launch phase — building founding membership, finalizing the space, applying for loans and grants. Signing up before launch is what makes the workshop possible. Here's what that actually means:
No payment is collected today. Every form on this page captures your interest, your contact info, and what kind of member you want to be. You will be notified directly before any membership charges begin, with at least 14 days notice. You can withdraw your commitment any time before launch with no penalty. If Grandpa's Workshop doesn't open within 24 months, all commitments are released.
Founding membership is capped at ten people. Each founding member locks in $35/month forever — a rate that will never increase as long as your membership stays active. You get a permanent founding-member number, your name on the founding wall at launch, first access to classes and studios, and your first class free.
This is a good-faith commitment. Not a payment. Not legally binding. If you change your mind before launch, you withdraw without penalty. If we don't open within 24 months, the commitment is released automatically.
A Tally form embed will be pasted into this block after setup. The form is capped at 10 submissions —
when the 10th comes in, Tally auto-closes it and this section flips to a "founding complete" celebration block.
(See SETUP.md step 2a for the 5-minute setup.)
Once the workshop opens, here's the full membership menu. Founding members lock in Basic tier pricing for life. Everyone else joins at the rates below.
| Tier | Access | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Basic (Founding) | Staffed hours, shared tools | $35 — lifetime lock |
| Standard | Extended hours + storage locker | $50–$65 |
| Maker Pro | 24/7 keyholder + priority booking | $80–$100 |
| Private Studio | Dedicated workspace + Pro benefits | $200–$400 |
Once the ten founding spots are gone — or if you'd rather not commit at the founding level — the general waitlist is your way in. We'll contact you first when memberships open. No payment now. Not a binding commitment. Just a way to make sure you're not behind the line.
Six to ten private rentable studios are planned inside the larger building. Each one is roughly 120 square feet, lockable, with a dedicated bench. Studio renters get 24/7 access (a Pro-tier benefit) and become some of the workshop's most invested community members — present daily, anchored to the space.
Monthly rates run $200–$400 depending on size and equipment needs. If you're a small craft business or a serious maker who wants a consistent personal space outside the home, this is your form.
Studio pre-signups directly shape the buildout. The square footage you need, the equipment you'll bring, whether you need extra ventilation or power — all of that affects the lease decision and the floor plan. Your form is read carefully, not auto-replied.
Instructors are the second-most important pre-launch asset after founding members. The day we open, we want a class schedule ready to publish. If you're skilled in a craft and want to teach — hobbyist, retired tradesperson, small-business owner, community-college instructor — we want to hear from you.
| Class type | Format | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner Introduction | 2 hours, up to 8 students | $35–$65 |
| Half-Day Intensive | 4 hours, hands-on project | $75–$150 |
| Multi-Session Course | 4–6 weeks, one night/week | $150–$300 |
| Private Lesson | 1-on-1, 1–2 hours | $50–$100 |
Instructors earn 50–60% of class revenue. Active instructors who teach regularly get free or discounted membership. If you can't safely run equipment but have decades of knowledge to share — see the Master Craftsman in Residence role on the Legacy page. That role is for you.
The lowest-friction form on the site. If you want to recommend equipment we should buy, a class you want offered, a craft we haven't thought of, or a partnership we should explore — tell us. No commitment, no follow-up required unless you ask for one.
Suggestions directly feed Phase 2 decisions: which equipment to prioritize, which classes to launch with, which crafts the community is hungry for.
We don't have a confirmed open date yet. The plan targets a lease signing once ten founding members commit and the SBA microloan / CDFI lender path closes — likely late 2026 or early 2027. We update the About page quarterly. The newsletter is the fastest way to hear when a date is set.
If Grandpa's Workshop doesn't open within 24 months of your commitment, the commitment is automatically released — no obligation to either party, no money was ever collected, no harm done. Honest answer: we plan to open, we have a business plan that pencils out, and we have the founder's grandfather's tools to start the workshop with. But pre-launch is pre-launch, and you deserve a real exit.
Yes, any time before launch, no penalty. Email Sarah at sarah@grandpasworkshoputah.com and your spot is released. We'd rather know than wonder.
To intend to pay $35/month when we open, and to provide feedback during pre-launch to help shape the space. That's it. Not a payment, not a contract, not a deposit. A good-faith commitment that the workshop is something you want to be part of.
The founding form auto-closes the moment the 10th signup is received. The page flips to a "founding complete" celebration with the names of the ten (with permission), and the call-to-action switches to the general waitlist. The cap is firm: we don't take an 11th founder.
No. Form submissions go directly to Sarah and are stored in a private spreadsheet that only she can see. We will never sell, share, or rent your information. The newsletter is opt-in only.
Yes. As long as your membership is active and continuous, $35/month for the lifetime of your membership. If you cancel and later rejoin, you join at the then-current rate. That's the only catch.
No — individual membership is for the individual. We're planning a family membership tier (parent + minors), and members may bring guests during open hours. Founding members will help finalize how this works.
